Racism, not Race, is a Risk Factor for Dying of Covid-19
July 17, 2020Types of Self-Care
July 21, 2020I joined Dr. Angie Anderson of Serenity Counseling Center on her podcast Serenity, Wellness & More to talk about racism. Specifically, we talked about whether people can even talk about racism honestly without the blame, shame, and guilt that surrounds the subject. Y'all know I think we can because that's how I teach. If my students feel those emotions, it's not because I'm harboring those feelings towards them. It comes from inside. But if we integrate self-care methods, we can increase our capacity to sit with discomfort, our ability to hear things we don't like, and our acceptance of facts we wish were different. By increasing our resilience, we are better able to participate in the fight against racism instead of distancing ourselves and leaving the work for others.
